We are honored to have each and every one of you in the Interwoven space as you love and care for the people in your lives. For each of us, Mother’s Day has its own significance and set of feelings. It can be difficult, depressing, easy to get through, happy, or (insert your own experience here). Women give their communities amazing gifts of affection, support, and comfort. We want you to make time this Mother’s Day to ask for what feeds you, as we celebrate each and every one of you.
Meagan, the creator and originator of the Cream City Dreams podcast, is this week’s Five Senses Friday! Give it a listen if you’re seeking motivational tales of Milwaukee women achieving their goals! Sarah Ornst Bloomquist, the executive director and co-founder of Mom’s Mental Health Initiative, was featured in this week’s episode.
Taste: Wisconsin Field to Fork Cookbook. Since I’ve been on an intermittent fast for the past three years, I want everything I eat to taste great during the eight hours I allot to eating. A beet dish in Lori Fredrich’s recently released cookbook “Wisconsin Field to Fork” served as my inspiration, and I now roast and chop a large batch of beets on Sundays. I got interested in cultivating my own microgreens from my kid’s FoodRight cooking class at school. I’ll combine some greens with the beets, add some crumbled goat cheese, a vinaigrette, and a *chef’s kiss*. I’ve made my day.
SEE: The Oracle Deck Moonflower. “I’m in for whatever that Andrea Scher brings to the world. It should come as no surprise, then, that I adore her Moonflower Oracle deck. When I need a little inspiration, when I’m about to start a new project, or when I just need a little pick-me-up to get through the day, I draw a card. I love to reflect on myself, and these cards help me stay on the correct track.
SMELL: Venice’s Virus Rub. “Our family has been healthy ever since we started using Venice’s Virus Rub, although I’m not sure what the secret is. We wind down every night with a ritual of rubbing beeswax and olive oil infused with essential oils on the backs of our ears and the bottoms of our feet. I love that we’ve avoided the cold and flu this winter, and my kids adore the smell. Venice Williams is a treasure for Milwaukee’s bodies, minds, and souls. I am appreciative of her work at Alice’s Garden, where she fosters community among the rich soil.
LISTEN: Wonders of Kelly Corrigan Podcast. “Well, I might be prejudiced, but Cream City Dreams is a podcast that features inspiring tales from amazing Milwaukee women who are setting the standard for success. And by “it,” I mean committing to oneself, one’s community, and living life to the utmost. I must, however, commend Kelly Corrigan and the crew behind Kelly Corrigan Wonders if I’m not permitted to count my own podcast. Her podcast, which I listen to every week, offers me doable suggestions on how to disrupt the current quo, have tough talks, and refute the myth that one person cannot change the world.
TOUCH: Body Groove by Ludmila Smirnova. Although I usually avoid clicking on sponsored postings on social media, two years ago Ludmila Smirnova’s Body Groove caught my eye, and I decided to give her dance program a try by purchasing a month-long subscription of world groove movement. I’m a lifelong member now. I adore how it increases my heart rate, gets me moving every day, and is an enjoyable method for me to get my steps in. The program’s main goal is to love and maintain our bodies in their current state, rather than just getting us moving. The older I get, the more valuable this viewpoint seems to me. I need a body that will support me into what Jane Fonda refers to as “my third act,” not the body I had in my 20s.
